Hand in Hand - Part 3

Jonathan Everette - 5/7/2017

Principle #1:
Money is not a financial issue, it's a spiritual issue.
Matthew 6:21
For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
Principle #2:
We are not owners, we are managers of God's money.
Matthew 6:33
But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.
2 Corinthians 9:6
Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously.
Rick Warren Says:
"The amazing thing is this: You don't just reap what you sow. You always reap more than you sow! God set it up this way because he wants you to become like him. God is a giver. The only way that you're ever going to become like him is to learn to be generous. When you're stingy, you're like the devil. When you're generous, you're like God. When you give it away, God multiplies it."
2 Corinthians 9:7
Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.
2 Corinthians 9:11
You will be made rich in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion, and through us your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God.
How to be generous:
1. Tithe
Leviticus 27:30
A tithe of everything from the land, whether grain from the soil or fruit from the trees, belongs to the LORD; it is holy to the LORD.
Malachi 3:10a
Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house.
Matthew 23:23
Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You give a tenth of your spices - mint, dill and cumin. But you have neglected the more important matters of the law - justice, mercy and faithfulness. You should have practiced the latter, without neglecting the former.
Tithing teaches us to put God first.
Deuteronomy 14:23
Eat the tithe of your grain, new wine and olive oil, and the firstborn of your herds and flocks in the presence of the Lord your God at the place he will choose as a dwelling for his Name, so that you may learn to revere the Lord your God always.
Tithing increases our faith.
Malachi 3:10b
'Test me in this,' says the Lord Almighty, 'and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that you will not have room enough for it.'
How to be generous:
2. Offerings = Anything over and above a tithe
Luke 21:1-4
As Jesus looked up, he saw the rich putting their gifts into the temple treasury. He also saw a poor widow put in two very small copper coins. "Truly I tell you," he said, "this poor widow has put in more than all the others. All these people gave their gifts out of their wealth; but she out of her poverty put in all she had to live on."
